In its latest report on global advertising market trends, released June 14, 2017, MAGNA forecasts net ad sales to grow by +3.7% to $505 billion this year.

This is a noticeable slow-down compared to 2016 that displayed a record +5.9% growth rate, but one that was expected by MAGNA in previous forecasts. The lack of global sports events or US elections in 2017 is responsible for the majority of the slowdown.

Digital media have now surpassed linear television to become the #1 category in advertising revenues.

Within digital, the majority of ad sales (54%) is now generated by impressions and clicks on mobile devices.

Meanwhile, television ad sales will be down (-1%) for the first time since 2009.

US advertising sales will grow by +1.6% to $185 billion (+3.4% if neutralizing the lack of global sports events and elections in an odd-numbered year).
